Race Director's Race Report








Fitness Competition Results

Tadd Morris, age 48, who after coming 2nd overall in the 10K, out-planked competitors with a 10 minute plank to be crowned Mr Fitness. Miss Fitness,  Margaret Powers, also ran a 10K (3rd overall) in addition to out-planking her fellow competitors with a 6 minute plank. Siblings Abby, 10, and Wyatt Rodgers, 12, won Miss and Mr Fitness Junior, and also placed 1st in their age groups for 5k and 10k, respectively. Special mention goes to Ethan Lindblad, 8, who after completing 10k in 1:22:01 went head-to-head and bested Wyatt in a nail-bitingly exciting 7 minute plank-off but was narrowly edged out of 1st thanks to Wyatt’s incredible 57 box jumps.

One week to race day important updates

Hello runners!


We have a few important updates for our Halloween Trail Run happening in just a few days. 


Weather is looking good with no rain predicted and temperatures in the mid 50s. Perfect for running and festivities planned including free kids activities: 'Tattoo Parlor', 'Bug Petting', 'Monster Golf', Nature Activities and Story Time. 


Fitness competition (sponsored by Anytime Fitness). Make sure to sign up for the competition at 'Registration' when you collect your race packet. Soon after finishing your run, head to the Fitness Station to do your max reps pull-ups, push-ups, sit-ups, box jumps in four minutes with no breaks. Fitness Station closes at 11.45am. For the Plank-Off you will need some cushioning for your elbows. Bring a foam pad or use your race tee. 


Chinese Auction: we have over a dozen great items including vouchers to The Children's Museum, Venture Outdoors, restaurants and gift baskets. Bring cash!


Costume Contest. Fabulous Pajer's Pies and cool trophies await five winners. Which category are you entering: 'Cutest', 'Scariest', 'Funniest', 'Best Couple/Group'? Judges table opens 9am-11am so get judged before your run or soon after. 


Carved Pumpkin Contest. We encourage everyone to bring your best carved pumpkin in. Prizes awarded three deep for categories: 10 and under, 11-17, 18 and up.


Food. Your included event wristband gets you a choice of fried rice (gluten free vegan option available min request) or veg chili,  choice of two sweets, and a drink. Public can purchase event wristband for food and contest participation ($10 adult, $5 kids 3-12). Bake sale and hot home-pressed apple cider available too, so come hungry! 


We invite you and your families to make a day of it at the hidden gem that is Harrison Hills Park, and can't wait to see you race day.

One Month Email Blast to Race Participants

Hello Harrison Hills Halloween 5k/10k Runners!
Thanks for joining our event! It's four weeks till Race Day and we have some exciting news to share.
  • Extended early registration: till Oct 5. $20 guarantees you a sweet race tee. At 12a Oct 6, price goes up to $25.
  • Race Tee & Sizing: We are going with Anvil Jersey 4.5oz preshrunk 100% ringspun cotton shirts as recommended by Customink - MEN sizes run SMALL. Women's are 'True to Size'. Please let us know if you have any questions about sizing.
  • Pre-Run: We are offering the opportunity to pre-run the 5k/10k on Oct 17, 3pm. Just show up ready to run, bring own water!
  • Run Prize Age Categories: <10, 10-14, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+ years old
  • Fitness Competition: ANYTIME FITNESS is on board as 'Official Sponsor of the Fitness Competition', and has two (2) x Three Month Membership packages worth $172 each for the 'Fittest Male' and 'Fittest Female' Champs! Check out the Fitness Competition Scoring sheet and let us know if you want to participate so we can plan ahead. Runners will go to the Fitness Station soon after completing your race, and do the competition (takes 5 minutes), followed by a 'Plank Off' at the Awards Ceremony. 
  • Kids Activity Booths  : Bring your family as we are planning free fun-filled activities from 9a-1p. Halloween tattoos, apple bobbing, monster golf, bug petting zoo, Ranger-led nature activities, to name a few. We have a large grassy field for picnic blankets, camp chairs, bring a pop up tent and hang out!
  • Volunteers: are still currently needed to help with food service, kids activity booths and etc. If you are bringing a supporter/family/friend who is interested in helping out, drop us a line!
  • Sponsors: We are seeking sponsors (cash or kind) for bottled water, bananas, apples (for bobbing), small (cheap) prizes for kids activity booths, Halloween-ey desserts for prizes or for the post-race feast. PLease let us know if you are able to contribute! Your generous contributions will be rewarded with an event wristband (access to food & contests), and our undying gratitude! 
  • Chinese Auction Carved Pumpkin & Halloween Costume Contests: cool prizes are in store for contest winners, and runners each get a raffle ticket for the Chinese Auction (more tickets available for purchase)!

Harrison Hills Halloween Trail Run 5K/10K 2015

Come on out for a run/walk on an awesome trail, for a worthwhile cause! Fun for the ENTIRE family with costume contests, pumpkin carving, nature activities by park rangers, and much more. $20 (reg active.com; $15 for youth) gets you a cool race tee, terrific post race lunch by Grace's Wok, aid stations stocked with monster munchies and witches brew, and a howling good time! Not to be missed! Volunteers, sponsors and vendors also welcome! All proceeds go towards Scout Projects improving the Park for community use.
