Results are out for the Run

Pre-Run
We will be offering an opportunity to pre-run the 5k and 10k routes on 10/23 Sunday 10 am. Let us know if you're interested in pre-running the course!

Race Packet 
Contains awesome race tee, race bib (affix to front of shirt), and event wristband (put around wrist for food and contest participation).

Race Route
The 5K route passes through old growth forest, open meadows, streams and ponds, up a ridgeline with spectacular views of the Allegheny River. The 10 km route extends beyond the the 5K route to offer an additional lung-busting scenic hill to enjoy!



Aid Stations
There will be one aid station at the 2.5 km mark (Soccer Field point), and a second aid station at the 7.5 km mark (Power Station point). Aid stations will offer water, Gatorade, bananas and treats!

Medical

In addition to the Medic tent at the Finish Line, there will be four Park Rangers on Event grounds. Please see a Park Ranger if you have any medical concerns during the race.

What to Do
  • Pre-Event Preparation. Decide which Category you would like to compete in, and prepare your most awesome costume accordingly. Decide on a Name for your Costume. Prizes will be awarded for the following Categories:
    • Best Overall Costume (Most Creative and Original)
    • Cutest Costume
    • Scariest Costume
    • Funniest Costume
    • Best Couples/Group Costume
    • Best Owner-Pet Costume
  • Event Day. Report in costume to the Judges Booth anytime between 8.30am-11.30am.
    • Be present for the Awards Ceremony that starts 11.30 am.
    • All the Best!

Free Activities

We have family-friendly activities at booths on left of Yakaon Pavilion from 9am-1pm. All these activities are FREE, but donations towards our Scout Fundraiser are always welcome!

Halloween Tattoo Booth
Stop by here first and pick out a free temporary tattoo to put on! Very cool designs available to choose from. No fuss, easy on 'Face Painting' :)

Kids Nature Activity Booth
Meet a Park Ranger and make some nature-themed crafts while learning how identify trees and native plants.

Kids Nature Stories 
Told by Park Naturalist Tammy Watychowicz at the Outdoor Classroom, next to the Environmental Learning Center.

Balloon Twisting
Always a smash hit!

Monster Golf
Toddlers and young children are welcome this game that requires coordination and dexterity to feed golf balls into the Monster's Mouth!

Ring Toss
Catering to young and young-at-heart, come toss a few rings!

Corn Toss
This should be challenging enough for older kids and adults. Great prizes!

Food

In addition to the creepy treats served to runners/walkers at aid stations along the 5 km and 10 km race routes, there will be a delicious post-race meal with 'monster munchies' and 'witches brew' available at Yakaon Pavilion 11a-1pm.

All race participants (runners, walkers) and volunteers will receive an event wristband when checking in at 'Registration'. This wristband gives you a hot meal option, one dessert and one beverage of your choice.

Supporters are welcome to purchase an event wristband (minimum donation of $10 for adults, $5 for kids ages 3-12) at the 'Registration' table at any time, to enjoy the delicious food too. Thank you for your support!

  • Fried Rice with wonton and vegetable spring roll. Prepared by Grace's Wok. Gluten-free, vegan fried rice option available.

Fitness Competition

RESULTS are out for the Fitness Competition 2016

What to Do
  • Runners: At the Active.com registration, indicate whether or not you will be participating - this is your pre-registration for the Fitness Competition. Walkers: Come early on Race Day to register for the Walk and Fitness Competition. Volunteers: Come early on Race Day to check in and sign up for the Fitness Competition.
  • Pre-Event Preparation. Work out! Pull ups, push ups, sit ups, box jumps, planks.
  • Event Day. Check in at 'Registration' between 8 - 9.45 am and sign up for the Fitness Competition.
    • Walkers and Volunteers: We encourage you to get the 4 min portion of the Fitness Competition done between 8.30 am – 9.45 am. The Fitness Station will remain open till 11.45 am, but may get busy with Runners after their run.
    • Runners: Soon after you finish your run/walk, report to the Fitness Station to complete the 4 min portion of the Fitness Competition.
    • A 'Plank Off' will be held for all competitors at the Yakaon Pavilion, at the beginning of the Awards Ceremony at around 11.45am. Trophies will be awarded at 12.30 pm.
Categories
Male and female ages 12 and under, Male and female 13 and up

Prizes
A grand trophy will be awarded to 'Fittest Male' and to the 'Fittest Female' in the age category 13 and up. 'Fittest Male' and 'Fittest Female'. 'Ms Fit Jr' and 'Mr Fit Jr' medals awarded to 1st place male and female age category 12 and under. Plus bragging rights for an entire year until Fitness Competition 2017 is held. :)

Scoring Criteria
Scores will be weighted for runners and walkers vs non-runners. 
Competitors will do as many as they are able of: Pull ups/1 minute, Pushups/1 minute, Situps/1 minutes, Box jumps/1 minute. Four minutes, 15 seconds given to rotate to the next station.
Competitors' scores will be subtotaled going into the 'Plank Off'.
A weighted score based on how long competitors are able to maintain proper plank form will be added to the subtotaled scores to obtain Total Scores for each competitor.

Chinese Auction & 50/50 Raffle

We all love to win and this year’s Chinese Auction is filled with great goodies to win from our very generous sponsors! The 50/50 Raffle will run simultaneously with 1st prize receiving 50% of the pot!

The best part? Every raffle ticket you buy will help fund Scouts Projects that better our Park for community use, and that makes you a winner whether you walk away with a prize or not.

For the 50/50 Raffle, we will be doing pink roll tickets. Drawing begins at 12.15 pm and you need to be present to win.

Volunteers

Thank you all who have signed up as volunteers to help with registration, man the aid stations, help direct and cheer on racers on course, greet finishers, serve lunch, staff activity booth...

.... and a million other things volunteers do on race day that help make the race HAPPEN. 


We currently have enough volunteers, thanks to everyone's enthusiastic responses.

However, additional supporters are welcome to cheer racers at the Finish Line, and all along the race course. Come dressed in your scariest, funniest or cutest costumes to add to the festive atmosphere!
